“Hey Get Rhythm, When you Get the Blues…”
“Hey get rhythm, when you get the blues, Come on and get rhythm, when you get the blues”
Johnny Cash
Why should your heart be any different!?!?!? If it’s gonna dance make it a slow dance – calm, collected and smooth.
When we discuss a rhythm control strategy for managing atrial fibrillation (afib) as previously mentioned we make a concerted effort to restore and maintain sinus (normal) rhythm today we will begin to highlight these approaches….
Chemical Cardioversion –
Often used in conjunction with an electrical cardioversion – we utilize medications called antiarrythmic drugs (AADs) to not only help “convert” you back to normal rhythm but help maintain it!
There are a number of options when it comes to AADs – it is extremely important to work with your physician to find the right fit for you. The risk/benefit of each class of AADs needs to be carefully navigated to find the best and safest option.
When used correctly and monitored closely these medications can be safe, effective (modestly), reduce symptoms and improve quality of life!
If you or a loved one has symptoms of atrial fibrillation, make an appointment for a health checkup. You may be referred to a doctor like me trained in cardiac arrhythmias, called an Electrophysiologist.
You are not alone!!
