Rhythm is Gonna Get You…

Rhythm is gonna get you…
When it comes to managing your atrial fibrillation (in addition to preventing stroke) there are two main strategies… Rate control and Rhythm control.

Rate control – no attempt at restoring normal rhythm – you will be placed on medications to slow your heart down/ prevent it from racing.

Rhythm control – attempting to not only restore normal rhythm but maintain it. This can be accomplished with medications, cardioversion or a procedure called catheter ablation (We will explore each of these individually in the coming days posts).

As mentioned in earlier posts this month there are consequences (stroke, heart failure, dementia etc) if we give up on your heart rhythm too early (hence the catchy title)!

Get with the RIGHT doctor and come up with the BEST strategy for YOU!!

If you or a loved one has symptoms of atrial fibrillation, make an appointment for a health checkup. You may be referred to a doctor like me trained in cardiac arrhythmias, called an Electrophysiologist.

You are not alone!!

Stay tuned for more to come!
