About thirty-five percent of the adult population, or as many as seventy million people in the US, has metabolic syndrome. That's more than one in three people! Metabolic syndrome is usually associated with at least three of five risk factors.

CVAM has received ICANL accreditation in Nuclear Cardiology at our Gilbert office. ICANL is the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories. Accreditation by ICANL is a “seal of approval”, for our patients, that our nuclear facility “. . . has been carefully critiqued on all aspects of [our] operations considered relevant by medical experts in the field of nuclear medicine”.

It seems that the entire nation has been under a cloud of uncertainty and stress the last three years, which has contributed to an increase in stress related doctor and emergency room visits. From our previous posts we have talked about the physiologic effects of stress on the heart. We can now talk about some strategies we can take to reduce stress and positively affect the physiology of our own bodies.

Stress is a normal part of human existence and has many physical, emotional and mental effects on our experience of life. In cardiology, we see the physiologic effects of disease that may cause symptoms and cause patients to seek medical attention. Stress, especially chronic stress, may have a profound effect on the development of disease, the experience of disease and the response to therapy. This will be the first post of a series of posts on stress and heart disease by Dr. Ambrosia.
